about

As books do have a great influence on me making music I want to share this music with you based on my favorite read in 2019:
Arthur C. Clarke's "2001 - A Space Odyssey" was my favorite read in 2019.
I read the book when travelling in August 2019. Each night after parking the bus, I went out into nature to record some fresh music. That night I went to the surreal scenery of a fully harvested cornfield.
That night I got stuck with a major feeling the book gave me: The feeling of travelling far out in space for completely nothing but the end of existence - I really felt the anxiety and pioneerdom of the crew aboard of Discovery, the spaceship in Arthur C. Clarke's novel.
The astronaut David Bowman being at the mercy of the unnameable openness of space and the automated supercomputer HAL2000, wich just had killed all other crew members because of a simple flaw in its system.
I was feeling the desperate perils the astronaut Bowman must have felt to travel further than any human being had gone before, just to be trapped in space to the mercy of a manmade computer.
The comprehensive tragedy of human strive for widening their horizons.
Following these desperate emotions I was feeling with David Bowman, I ended up playing some excessively frightening drone noise to myself on my electric upright bass through my headphones. The music carried me away in my own capsule in the momentary sheer endlessness of the surreal scenery I found myself in.
This EP consists of three tracks: One serves as the overture to the momentous desaster of David Bowman's mission I had just arrived at through my lecture.
The second piece works as the core part of the composition - encompassing the frightening tightness in the endlessness of space - the miscarriage of a mission of greatest meaning to all humankind in one man's failure of a long-dreamed life goal.
The third piece is just the field recording outside of my headphones: Whilst I was going through the fears of David Bowman being stuck in the middle of nowhere playing my bass, all of this didn't happen outside my headphones. just like the astronaut Bowman's total fright and desperate try to survive was not even being present on a differently scaled level outside the Discovery nor even outside his mind.
The knowledge of our planet earth being as tiny as a millionth part of a single grain of sand in the widest ocean gives me great serenity as it gives me a great fright.
"2001 - A SPACE ODISSEY" captures the fright of it.
